FREESTLEMANIA BIOGRAPHY: LISETTE MELENDEZ

Lisette Melendez

Lissette Melendez grew up in East Harlem where she still resides. She formed a boy/girl group in her early years, which led her to producer Carlos Berrios.

Soon afterwards she was doing background vocals on various tracks and eventually became the lead voice for the 1988 club hit "Make Noise". Lissette hit it big when Berrios produced "Together Forever" for her.

The track got the attention of Andy "Panda" Tripoli and Sal Abbatiello of Fever Records who signed her and released the track selling 400,000 copies. This track was also big because it revived freestyle during its dead period in the early 90's by providing a "new school" sound for freestyle. The second single "A Day In My Life" was also on her first album entitled "Together Forever".

In 1993 the second album "True To Life" was released which was also successful and soared high in the Billboard charts.

The latest freestyle album released by Lissette is "Imagination" under the Warlock label which has the singles, "Time Passes By" and "Make The Way."

In 2000-2002, Lisette has continued to perform around the country and for a brief time had her own website, www.lisettemelendez.com, but for now seems that it is no longer there. However, this Freestyle Diva will make her return.
