JESIKA** Jessica Catherine Bowes a.k.a. Jesika was born
July 23rd, 1975 in Flushing, New York. From a musical family of Irish,
Italian, and German heritage, she grew up listening to a virtual "United
Nations of music" in her home. The youngest of three siblings (2 sisters
and one brother) Jesika was teased constantly as the "baby of the
family," but admits she loved all the attention she recieved as the
youngest.
At age 9, the family moved to Kissimmee, Florida, then a relatively small town just outside of Orlando. "Growing up in Kissimmee, when I wasn't memorizing the music of Whitney Houston or Taylor Dayne, all I did was dream of going back to New York," she says. "When I was a little girl in Flushing, I loved to perform in front of people. My Aunt Joanie had a band and once, when we went to hear her in a local club, she called me up on the stage. Fearless, I went up and sang "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie. I remember the crowd went wild, and at that moment I knew I wanted to be a singer." Living in Florida for eleven years Jesika remembers, "I acted in practically every school play, sang in the glee club and entered every talent contest I could. I guess you could say I was on my way even back then. When I was twelve I won the Miss Kissimmee St. Cloud contest. From then on, all I could think of was getting back to New York, and if I could only do that, nothing could stop me! When my family decided to move back to New York I began to sing at every Sweet Sixteen and wedding I could and started performing regularly on a regular basis at OZ, a popular Long Island dance club." When asked about her first chance in the music business, Jesika confesses, "It was hard work. I sang demos, kept asking around and put the word out. Then through the grapevine I heard that dance music legend Chris "the Greek" Panaghi was looking for a new artist to work with. I went to his studio and we clicked from the start. Chris and I worked on some great songs that ended up on his album You're In My House (Jeda). The A&R guys at PHAT CAT RECORDS heard some of this material and decided to come to one of my performances last summer. Soon after, I was signed to the label." Jesika's debut Phat Cat single "Tonight" is set for a Summer 2000 release. This powerful pop confection perfectly showcases Jesika's dynamite vocals. "This tune delivers," exclaims Jesika, "It's the kind of song everyone can relate to and I really can't wait to perform it live." With the release of "Tonight," PHAT CAT is set to take Jesika to center stage in the Dance/Pop scene. It's all about a fresh face, a fierce voice, and a hot label. So look out...it's party time with Jesika on PHAT CAT RECORDS |
