FREESTLE BIOGRAPHY: BOBBY LEAL

1998 Bobby Leal Biography

A new year brings many things including a long awaited new song from Bobby Leal entitled For You. For You is that magic trademark combination of Bobby Leal’s poetic lyrics and producer Fredwreck’s beats and edits. Add together just the right kiss of background vocals by Soleil, who has recorded and performed live with Bobby over the years for a cut of ear candy made just for summer radio.

This hit single, one of five songs produced by longtime friend, Fredwreck Nassar, who’s own list of credits is filled with many hit remixes, hip-hop productions, soundtracks and bonus beat LP’s. Bobby has often said; That Fredwreck knows exactly how to wrap music around my words. The results have been recognized as Dance Ballads and is the signature of their collaborations. They’ve worked together since 1992, first on Bobby’s 2nd 12-inch release One More Chance, with heavy airplay on KSJS, Hot 97.7 mix shows in San Jose, Ca. It spawned many requests from west coast freestyle fans. The success of O M C over a two-year span demanded they re-release the hit, with the aid of freestyle enthusiast/artist manager Jose Martinez. It was reproduced in 1995 and sold to Tolga’s Summit Entertainment for release on Strictly Freestyle Vol. 1 available still on CD/Cassette, thus gaining a new found audience on the east coast and Canada.

Having been out of the public eye for two years a period Bobby refers to in brief as my family got divorced. He continued to work and write music for a much anticipated CD album project. Enlisting a roster of various producers, singers and musicians such as friends Michael Ortega and Chris The Planet Arevelo, who produced Bobby’s first single I’d Rather Spend The Bad Times With You, written by Mr. Terry Lewis and James Jimmy Jam Harris, licensed by Flyte Tyme Tunes. Also Jeff Hernandez who has done 3 tracks, a remake of Judy Torres’ No Reason to Cry and another which was co-produced and written by recording artist Kenny for Bobby Leal, a song entitled No More Waiting featuring background vocals by Chako Beilen, with the release of For You drawing the dream closer to reality.

Next is another double-sided cassingle with two old school freestyle songs. Misdirected Love written and produced by Jay Steel with Jeff Hernandez will feature one of two songs Bobby executive produced for local artist Danielle. The other is currently offered on the B-side of For you entitled All Night Long, produced by Ernie Medina (formerly of DAIZE). All Night Long is strongly gaining it’s own merit and recognition with new school clubs and audiences. Bobby, a familiar friend to all, treasures the variety of freestyle, R & B, hip-hop artists and even alternative musicians, whom he has worked with and admires deeply. As noted on a shout out from the Warren G produced, Long Beach rap duo, The Twins, in their 1997 hit single Eastside L.B. It further confirms the respect and friendship Bobby has amongst many in the music industry.

Bobby is a multi-talented recording artist/writer/actor and has kept active with shows, productions and even a commercial for McDonalds, aired on MTV, adding to the hand full of cameo’s he has done. He has also lent his time and talent to many charitable causes he supports. Bobby plans to devote ’98 to two charities, Camp Sunbursts, a summer camp for children with AIDS and their families and has been asked to join the board of the National AIDS Wish Association, as well as showing support for local candidate for City Council, Cindy Chavez, whose focus is fair housing and rental development. To sum it all up, as we look through the paragraphs of this biography to date, and all that makes a career a life, we can only look and move forward to pave the future full of love and peace through music.
