"The Original
Spanish Fly"
As freestyle began to lose its mainstream appeal
that it endured during the mid to late 1980s, Independant Labels
were more in demand for freestyle artists as the the early 1990s
hit. One in particular, Upstairs Records, based out of San Jose,
California, was one that put Cali Freestyle on the Map. Their
first success was experienced through their breakout artist,
Daize, with hits like "Misery," "Girl,"
and "You and Me." Then, a young latino, Ernest Ramos,
came into the picture. It was his vision along with Upstairs
Records that came up with the idea of expanding the label's
success into a group success by forming a group called, Spanish
Fly. Their first hit, "Precious," skyrocketed the
duo into instant local sensations. Amongst their intial successes
were tragedies and set backs that ultimately caused Ernest Ramos
then known as Lorenzo to leave the group before the mainstream
success of Spanish Fly and their infamous track, "Treasure
Of My Heart." We
had the priveledge of conducting an interview with Lorenzo
who know goes by the name of Rock E and invite all of you
to listen to what he had to say on what really happened in
his own words. He really takes us in an insight on where he
came from to where is going today. Make sure you stop by both
of his MySpace pages and check out his Hip Hop MySpace and
witness his dope tracks. Also, RockE is back in the studio
puttin out Demo Tracks and is in search for "Unsigned
Freestyle Singers" who are interested in pursuing a venture
out into the Freestyle Industry. Take a listen to his Demo
Track and if interested, Contact RockE directly via his Myspace.
(The interview is formatted on 2 seperate files as an
MP3 and can be heard in all media players that support MP3
Media files. We apologize as there were a few technical difficulties
in certain spots of the interview) |
